Broadcast Journalism
Finding and creating stories was a passion of mine in high school, and now it has turned into a career. I currently work part-time as a morning reporter and sports producer for NBC affiliate KOMU8 in Columbia, MO. Click below for examples of my favorite work.

After coming home from the gym one day, my dad told me: "Jacob go look outside." What I saw shocked me. A line of multicolored lights was moving toward the church across the street. I grabbed my camera and ran over. Over two years later this has remained one of my favorite stories.

In this story I had speech class with a young entrepreneur named Jeremy Northrop, who always talked about his businesses. However, some things seemed too good to be true, and Nolan and I were skeptical. But, when he produced the evidence to back his numbers we knew we had a great story.

This broadcast piece from high school was on a Prospect superfan, who battles a disability. Interviewing him and his dad was an extremely rewarding experience for me. Not only was it intriguing to learn about what my high school was like in the 60s, but learning what Benny had to deal with on a day-to-day basis was eye-opening for me.
Taste of Prospect
The Taste of Prospect series was an idea I had to profile local restaurants in our area in a cheesy TV show format. Current Mizzou journalism student Charlie Dahlgren hosted the show and I produced it.

A good relationship with a former source led Charlie and I to Big Ange's in Arlington Heights. Going into the shoot we only had a rough idea of what we wanted the show to look like, but we made sure to take many standups and plenty of broll. So much broll in fact that one of our cameras died and we had to call Nolan for an extra battery. I came back and edited the footage together with some copyright free music and our first episode was ready. The format I created in this first episode is now the format we follow in all of our Taste of Prospect Episodes.

In our second episode I felt my ability to shoot sequences and transitions improved tenfold. Shooting sequences was always some I struggled with in my broadcast pieces, but working on Taste of Prospect helped me become a better videographer.
